Where it all began...Under the Sea birthday cake

My obssession with cake decorating began with my son's 1st birthday cake back in October 2009. I had a fair idea of the kind of cake I wanted and thought Id have a go at making it myself. This was the end result...
Vanilla sponge (from a packet!) decorated with fondant icing and candy rocks.

I was suprised but very happy with how well it turned out especially being my first attempt at decorating a cake with fondant icing. And, I realised how much I enjoyed doing it-creating edible art! It seemed like the perfect hobby to keep me occupied whilst staying at home to raise my gorgeous little boy so I started offering to do cakes for my friends and their children as well.

I fell pregnant with our second child, our daughter Lila, in March last year. Being pregnant really slowed me down but now that she is here (and I am finally no longer pregnant!) I am very ready to get back to baking!

Choo Choo! Train Birthday Cake

I love using lollies to decorate kids birthday cakes because I know how much kids love to eat them!! This colourful train cake (December 2009) inspired by one from an old Women's Weekly cake book has tee-vee stix train tracks, oreo wheels and licorice all sorts for cargo!

'Christmas Presents' fruit cakes

We hosted christmas at our place in 2009 so I 'made' these cakes to match the colour theme of blue and white. When I say 'made' I mean I went to the supermarket, bought two fruit cakes and then covered them in fondant icing!Yes, I cheated!

Two Tiered Funky Red Heart Engagement Cake

I was very happy with how this cake turned out but unfortunately my poor photography skills just dont do it any justice! It was a two tiered chocolate mud cake with dark chocolate ganache and red fonant icing. I then personalised it on the top with the happy couples initials embezzled with silver cachous. This was also before I discovered thicker cake boards and covering the board with icing!

Pink & White Personalised Butterfly Cake

This was my fourth birthday cake (November 2009) but is still one of my favourites! I had so much fun decorating it especially being so pink, pretty and girly! I cant wait to start creating cakes for my own little girl!

Baby Face Cupcakes

Three cakes later, I was hooked! I started obssessing about cakes and cupcakes and spent hours googling all the different creations. After purchasing the Planet Cake book, I decided to try out the baby face cupcakes for my girlfriends baby shower and they were a huge hit! As she didn't know the sex of the baby, I went with a neutral colour scheme.

Giant Birthday Cupcake

Feeling creative, I decided to make this giant cupcake as a gift for my  friends 21st birthday.

Cars Themed Birthday Cake

So, following my son's 1st birthday party, friends started to ask if I wanted to do their children's birthday cakes. This cars themed cake was for our friends little boys second birthday and was my second time decorating a cake with fondant.
